The older the house, the more chance of there being the neurotoxin lead in it.
Any degradation, flaking or sanding will contaminate wherever its trodden. Lead in paint is not taken seriously enough.
Lead paint is especially harmful to children and in pregnant women it can seriously affect the foetus.
Just 1 gram of lead contaminated paint can contaminate 100 x 3m x 3m rooms
